About Me

I was born in Hindley near Wigan and lived there until relocating to Southport in 2000.  I first became interested in photography as a young boy when I was given my very first basic film camera. It was however in my mid-teens when I bought my first ‘proper’ camera, an Olympus Trip 35mm film camera. At the age of 18 I bought my only ever SLR camera, an Olympus OM10 film camera, the camera with which I learnt basic photographic techniques. After a long break from photography, two factors rekindled my interest. The first being the digital age, making it far easier to take many more pictures, giving more scope for experimentation. The second factor was my work at the local FE College in Southport, helping HND photography students with their studies.

What I like about my present location of Southport are the wide open spaces of the beach, Marine Lake, marshlands, as well as the long wide boulevard of Lord Street and of the course the Pier.

My philosophy on photography is to take photos with the heart, rather than to overthink its technical side.  My work tends to be more instinctive, as I know when the light is right for a good shot. The most important camera is the one you have with you all the time, in my case a compact Sony RX 100 camera, which has the capabilities of some DSLR cameras.

I try to keep post production techniques to a minimum, using editing techniques in Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom to enhance the detail.

Thank you for viewing my website.
